I am excited to introduce myself as your child's teacher for the 2014-2015 school year. My name is Khaali Terrell. I am married with three sons. I have been teaching for 12 years. I received my b.s. in early childhood education from Fort Valley State University, and my masters in educational technology from Central Michigan University. We will learn a lot and have loads of fun this year. Parents, please check the home page of this website weekly for updated information and assignments paying close attention to due dates and other noteworthy dates.
Skills
Third graders need to be able to demonstrate good listening skills by focusing on teacher’s instructions which is important to understand the lesson or concept.
Students entering the Third grade also need a sense of responsibility for their materials.Assignment completion is crucial for their success in the Third grade.Students will need to make good choices, and follow the rules of our school.
Reading with students daily would help your child be successful in all areas of Third grade.Students will be exposed to informational text quite frequently.Reading a newspaper or magazine article and discussing it with your child is great exposure to informative text.Students need to be confident readers, and should enjoy reading.
Students should be very competent in their addition and subtraction facts through 20.Practicing with flash cards will help them be successful; As well as multiplication facts through 11.
Students should be able to identify coins and dollar amounts, and be able to count money.Having a bank and counting their money is good practice as well as paying for items themselves and figure out their change.
Students are expected to be able to tell time on a standard clock as well as digital clock. To help your child with standard clock faces, a suggestion may be to purchase a watch for your child and ask them to tell you what time it is.
Students should be able to write complete sentences. They should begin and end all sentences correctly and be able to edit their work for capital letters and punctuation.Writing in a journal over the summer would be great preparation for fifth grade, and they would be practicing how to write sentences.
